1. We demand fuller support, care and understanding of people who have experienced trauma, stress, addiction and medical emergencies. People must receive urgent access to resources and support.
2. People with lived experience of homelessness must lead Shelter Scotland’s policies and decision-making processes. They must be part of the co-production and co-design of services.
3. We demand greater positive and informed media attention on the causes of, and the reality of, homelessness – as well as greater visibility of homeless charities. 
4. We believe that there should be easily accessible information relating to benefits, rent arrears, household bills and other useful information. This should be available in print in public buildings, face-to-face and online.
5. There should be appropriate supervised support available in places like libraries and local council facilities.
6. We believe that mobile phones with free phone numbers to support services should be available for the homeless community, to enable them to gain access to benefits and services.
7. We demand an end to prejudice against people who experience housing insecurity.

An interfaith response to COP26 and the climate crisis

Our planet is in crisis. As people of faith, we believe that

• Everyone has a right to a healthy environment
• We must act right now at every level of our society
• We are part of nature, interconnected and dependent upon it
• Nature can regenerate itself if humans support this process

Our faiths demand we protect and preserve the earth’s resources and ecosystems, respect all life on earth, and live simply, avoiding greed and over consumption.

We recognise that the climate crisis and injustice are inextricably linked.
Inspired by faith and science we ask governments, businesses and all those in power to:

1. Learn from traditional ecological knowledge and the sustainable practices of indigenous communities; and to support Indigenous people’s land rights
2. Stop investment in and subsidy of all fossil fuel energy sources, and to make an urgent and just transition to renewable energy
3. Transform unsustainable food systems to prioritise local food production, the environment, human health, and animal welfare over profit
4. Work with communities and civil society to ensure that new jobs are created in a green economy 
5. Ensure COP26 agrees action that limits global warming to 1.5°C; and agrees a delivery plan for the $100 billion promised annually to the countries experiencing the worst loss and damage due to climate change
6. Urgently accelerate our work towards zero carbon emissions globally. The obligation on the global north to reach zero carbon emissions quickly is greatest.
7. Protect and restore the biodiversity of the land and the ocean, and to cease our dumping of hazardous waste into sea, land or air
8. Protect and restore the world’s forests and stop unnecessary deforestation

We hold ourselves to these standards and ask you to do likewise. 

Manifesto 32

A manifesto towards anti-racism

1. As individuals and communities we are living within a system of structural racism. We want to stay with uncomfortable conversations around difference. We want to be open to the possibility for an exploration. We choose not to dismiss others.
2. We acknowledge what young people are bringing into awareness during this time of revelation.
3. As people racialised as white we need to question our deep inherited assumptions and our shallow understanding of difference.
4. We support the constructive conversations that revalue and reshape the existing structurally racist education system and school curricula. We welcome the ongoing deepening of awareness of what is this country’s history.
5. We will strengthen our own resilience to enter the space of difficult conversations about social conceptions of race that may lessen our personal standing and privilege as white people.
6. We have learned that the concept of blackness and whiteness is historically constructed to divide.
7. We resist divide and rule. Groups of people should not be played off against each other to create divisions which serve an economic elite.
8. We will play our part in rebuilding solidarity.

Manifesto 31

Currently within Scotland there is no consensus on a clinical definition of deafblindness. In the absence of this Deafblind Scotland uses:

“Persons are regarded as deafblind if they have a severe degree of combined visual and auditory impairment resulting in problems of communication, information and mobility” Breaking Through Report (1988).

1. It is the right of deafblind people to be recognised as a unique community and we should be included in all aspects of society.
2. We expect the Scottish Government, public and private sectors, and the wider community to be deafblind aware.
3. It is the right of deafblind people to have equal access to influence local and national policy and we should be fully consulted throughout.
4. It is our right to have access to communication information, travel and equipment that is fully accessible and is financially inclusive.
5. It is every deafblind person’s right to accessible support across multiple services in particular during diagnosis, transitions and major life events.

1. We believe there isn’t a hierarchy of species, that all life – people, animals, plants and fungi – are interconnected and in relations of dependency with each other.

11. We demand that retailers are transparent about the environmental impact through the supply chain of their products.

1. We believe that everyone should be treated equally.
2. It doesn’t matter if you’re gay or lesbian. 
3. Children should feel safe everywhere they go – online and offline. There must be no abuse towards children.
4. There must be no abuse towards animals.
5. People should respect each other and listen to each other.
6. Think before you speak. Don’t speak over people.
7. No more pollution. No littering. More recycling. Less plastic.
8. There should be spaces where people can go and practice making graffiti.
9. We should think carefully about the consequences of using Mars for the needs of the people of the Earth.

1. To create an inclusive and safe space without pressure for everyone and anyone, somewhere everyone can come together and not be judged. Art for the sake of art.
2. We want to create a space in which social issues like racism, gay rights and climate change can be openly discussed to educate ourselves and others through creativity. 
3. Art can be used to familiarise people towards issues and to generate social change.
4. There should be more opportunity in school for all ages when it comes to theatre and art.
5. We believe art should be valued in itself as well as a viable career option and a means to change.
6. Art allows us to extend the expression of what is and isn’t usual – and so can change people’s perceptions.
7. We need somewhere to be able to showcase the art we make, somewhere people can be proud of what they’ve done and find encouragement through feedback and support from others.

Beyond Covid – a Manifesto for Mental Health and Belonging in Scotland

1. We believe in the strength of community where people are not lost. In which isolation can be voluntary but dislocation is not. 
2. We want funding for activities which create communities that support everyone. We yearn for a welcoming, diverse culture of community that allows each of us to be as we are.
3. We all have mental health. Mental health is as important as physical health and can be talked about without stigma. 
4. Mental, physical and emotional health as well as social circumstance all impact our well-being. These should be considered  and supported holistically.
5. Mental illness must not be shoved in a corner. Funding must not be reduced or reused under mental well-being.
6. People who have mental ill health incidents should be supported not criminalised.
7. Everyone’s contribution should be valued. Everyone’s contribution should be heard and acknowledged. We need a new set of tools and systems to enable voices to be heard and to have influence.
8. Valuing should be reflected in a more equal distribution of wealth ensuring everyone can fully participate in society.  Everyone should have good housing, healthcare, education and social networks.
9. We resist the negative words that are associated with mental illness. We remember that JOY is out there still. 
10. Let’s cherish creativity and kindness towards self and others. Creativity is what allows us to express ourselves when we don’t have words or don’t have language.
11. As we come  out of Covid we’d like to talk – in safe spaces. We demand safe spaces for people to be honest about how they have and haven’t coped with issues that affect them.
12. We believe in the radical act of stopping and sitting with it. Take time to be still!

1. We are all human beings and should be treated equally – with dignity and respect.
2. Everyone should have access to their basic needs including clean water, food, education, physical, mental and emotional health care, shelter, clothing, caring, being socially included.
3. Everyone’s voice is important.
4. Zero tolerance to racism. There should be policies in schools, colleges and work places to address racism. The policies should be made public. These policies must be fully implemented – and revised through learning from racist incidents.
5. We demand clean streets and a healthy environment.
6. We care about the environment. Food should not be wrapped in plastic. We want governments to fund clean energy that respects the environment.

To combat this we think that these pressures should be more acknowledged and transparent to others. Influencers are not always a positive thing. Social media platforms should have robust ethical policies and be held accountable. Social media should be secure for everyone.
7. We value the planet and all that it gives us. We need to work to restore the damage that has been done to the planet. We believe that education for all is key to ensuring the change that is needed.
8. We believe we have no right to aim to live on another planet until the Earth is restored.
9. We believe everyone should reflect on the part they have played in making our world the way it is and we should now all, as a community, work on making it better.
10. We believe that the time for talking is done, it is now time for action. We want to move away from hierarchical structures. We suggest that intergenerational (younger children to older people) and diverse voice committees should be formed within the community to forward on thoughts and beliefs to decision makers.

1. We think that mental ill health should be approached and treated the same way as physical ill health. Depression can be as serious as cancer.
2. There should be greater understanding of mental illness across the board – including in work places, shops, public services and other environments.
3. There should be investment in mental health training in the workplace – for mental health first aiders and advocates who can work with their colleagues and their service users. 
4. We feel that people should be kinder to each other. Everyone should show care and compassion to others in the community.
5. We believe there should be equality in all things regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic circumstances. There should be opportunities for everyone to flourish.
6. Arts and culture should be valued in our society and made accessible to all.

1. It’s a really tough moment right now. We need to look after each other’s mental health. We will look for ways to support each other.
2. Male mental health should be discussed more openly.
3. Covid has made some people greedy – exploiting others in times of hardship. We believe that everyone, including businesses, have a duty to take care of each other in these times.
4. We see that food businesses are doing very well in the pandemic due to the support that they have received from local communities. We really appreciate businesses who have shown support to the community in the pandemic and would like thriving businesses to offer concrete support to the vulnerable in the community.
5. Government should work with energy companies and data providers to agree a scheme of low budget tariffs – a discounted tariff because everyone is at home and having to spend more on energy.
6. Government should increase budgets for local councils. This can be used for creating jobs and improving the local environment.
7. Rents should be frozen throughout the pandemic.
8. If companies want their employees to work from home the company should contribute to their expenses for this.

1. Life should be the subject of the economy.
2. We believe that human beings have inherent value outwith their capacity to produce.
3. We believe that society being rich should not be measured monetarily but in the creative diversity of people’s contributions.
4. We believe that centres of power need to acknowledge that humans require more than their basic physiological needs to thrive and act on it. Those include a community, emotional wellbeing, creativity and a social support network.
5. We believe that centralised power has a responsibility to prioritise the wellbeing of their citizens above everything else. Kindness and compassion should be the foundation of all societal structures.
6. We believe that change can happen from the places where life is lived. This can include kitchens and living rooms and other everyday places of connectivity.
7. We believe that change comes from living the lives we want and building outwards.
8. We believe that change comes from real people talking to and caring for each other.
9. We believe that there needs to be a radical re-examination of the concept of work that is more inclusive of the infinite number of activities that have value that humans can engage in.
10. Using this more inclusive concept of work, we believe that work can be joyful, work can be playful, work can be creative, emotional contributions are work and must have rest as a counterpoint. 
11. All people, especially women, should not have to buy themselves time in order to have a joyful existence.
12. We believe that the pursuit of joy and creativity through play are absolutely essential to every human’s actualisation and that any economy should facilitate and allow opportunity for that pursuit.
13. We believe that rest is essential.

4. We demand a system which sees grassroots activity as facilitating real social change.
5. Diversity should be meaningful and helpful – especially for those who are in the minorities. Our politics, our media and our society should be representative of all individuals so that none are sidelined or silenced.
6. Divisive language which is used to discriminate or diminish a person’s worth should be removed from places of work, governance and society.
7. We should address equity with positive action when we demand equality!
8. Our judicial system should be built on systems of equity and fairness – not one that privileges the powerful and rich.
9. There is no denying that racism exists! We have to challenge it at every turn! Zero tolerance for racism and discrimination in all its forms!

1. We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being – and we respect individual autonomy in all aspects of life including but not limited to  physical, emotional, spiritual, mental.
2. We affirm and believe that every living being has a right to flourish and be treated with respect, the right to having basic needs met including a connection to the natural world.
3. We affirm and believe that every living being has a right to an opportunity to express their story – and most importantly to repair, acknowledging the damage that colonialism has done and learning how to shift away from thinking that there is a ‘manifest destiny’.

1. We are a part of nature.

5. We need to find new ways to engage more widely – recognising that many people don’t have the time, emotional space or energy to engage.
6. We need shared enabling spaces to listen to the stories and voices we haven’t heard yet.

1. We demand that all humans, all species should be valued and provided nurturing in order that they can thrive, including access to safe and green spaces, clean air and water.
2. We demand a society that does not pit the welfare of individual humans and the welfare of planetary ecosystems against each other and require a shift from a scarcity model to one of reciprocity.
3. We demand prioritisation of the wellbeing and sustainability of workers and communities. This requires an end to narratives of constant growth and a re-evaluation of what our goals as individuals and societies can be.
4. We demand global truth and reconciliation councils and opportunities to educate ourselves in order to repair our history of extractivism of people and planet.
5. We demand a world where creative led and community focused initiatives are the drivers for change.
6. We demand investment in safe green travel solutions.

We are an arbitrary group of people who offer a form of consensus around what humanity may be able to do on local and global levels in response to the current crisis.

1. We believe this is a moment to reflect on our individual and collective responsibilities and change our relationship to each other and the society.
2. We believe that there should be more resources to support people’s mental and physical health.
3. From this radical shared experience – the virus – we want to grow sensitive to other, less visible, shared experiences – to encourage those who are comfortable to empathise with those who are harmed.
4. We believe that there is an urgent need to enact our humanity by generating shared, equal, nonjudgmental spaces of social, cultural, and political exchange.
5. We believe we must foster safety for all, via acceptance, access.
6. We believe we must expand our periphery, seeing limits as opportunities, and acknowledging our existing privileges in doing so.
7. If we take the term “apocalypse” at its root definition as an “unveiling” or a “revealing of what could not be seen before”, rather than just ignoring what has been revealed, we must not only acknowledge it, but act, and make something new.
8. We believe that this current crisis offers an opportunity to raise awareness of global interconnectivity, and to negotiate new ways to live in relation to one another and to the environment.

1. A world that respects human and animal and planetary sovereignty that isn’t ruled by the scared terrified pursuit of a thing that we’ve made up – money.
2. Establish free, high quality, culturally safe and appropriate healthcare for all people globally.
3. Introduce a liveable, constant, universal basic income for all peoples of adult age which is to be used at the discretion of the recipient.
4. We will foster a greater sense of community and build strong systems to protect each other.
5. We respect each other’s time and talents. Work and labour shall be undertaken at a human pace.
6. We want a new economic model that works for everyone. The model should benefit the entire community, including our collective descendants. Human and animal dignity, safety and agency should be preserved or enhanced by the economy.
